I also am very firm in the belief that they need to be a part of it. I can’t let Manu raj handle sharp cutters which are required to cut the board but he can damn well handle the paper and the glue and the mud and everything else that goes in this project. It is essential to engage him so he learns something and enjoys the process of creating something with your own hands.
The success rate for nature is very poor. Be it the number of salmons swimming upstream to lay eggs in the river finally surviving the seals and the polar bears or the seeds that a tree or a plant produces each season.
This was a failsafe mechanism by nature - to actually produce a lot more than required. This ensures that life goes on even without an external intervention or inspite of it.
Since when did sugar become synonymous with happiness? There was a time when cocaine was not a banned drug, it actually was an ingredient in Coca Cola and that is what gave it the name Coke. But that was when we didn’t know any better. We have, since then, banned cocaine and have removed it as an ingredient from cola. Sugar has been and is still used very liberally in our food and although it is not a dangerous drug like cocaine, consuming copious about of it, as in sweetened drinks like carbonated drinks and packaged fruit juices don’t so any wonders for our health either.
I was wondering if any money has changed hands for Sachin to be on the can of a Coke. Got my answer the other day when I was Sachin Tendulkar in the ad of Coke. With this he has joined Aamir Khan as a celebrity to endorse both Pepsi and Coke, and why not? Apparently Pepsi is the choice of new generation and Sachin is not a part of that generation anymore, so what do you expect from him?
This was, for more than an year the most anticipated thing in the entire country. Every time India played a match the only thing discussed was Will Sachin Tendulkar be able to score his 100th 100 in this match and there were a lot of disappointing innings - innings when Sachin was not able to score the 100. More disappointing even than the loss of India is some of those matches.
Wondering if the birds had faced the same problem with population as we are experiencing, how would they have coped with it, specially when there are less and less trees around to make nests. Would they have moved to apartments from independent houses as well?
One would think that the increasing urbanisation has killed or driven away all the birds but if you look around you do get to see a few odd native birds. Apart from crows, sparrows and pigeons, I have quite frequently seen kingfisher around our home. This is one sitting on the power cable with the gulmohur tree in the background.
This is a in between the flower shoot shot when I was taking picture of some flowers in my garden and and when got stuck, started shooting other things like this tap and this leaf. Although it sounds much better that that is rain water but this is actually not. The plants had just been watered and this is from the hose, not from clouds.
I liked it but I didn’t buy it because I know it is a JanSport bag and I have paid a small fortune for that but when I travel with that in a Mumbai local, 99 out 100 people will think I bought this from Andheri station.
An investment made in gold at that time would have yielded three fold returns. If it was not for that investment consultant I would have been richer by a few grands today by investing in gold, but no point is cursing her. I am sure she was couldn’t have foreseen this. These are the same investment consultant who couldn’t see the stock market collapse and these are the same people who committed suicide over money lost.
Akshaya Tritiya is the festival when we buy gold. Just like Diwali is a festival of firecrackers, Holi is the festival of colour and water balloons. Anyone who wants to know the real significance of this festival can read on.
Today is Earth Day 2012 and the Earth Day Network has quite a few plans for the earth, not just for today but for the our long term future. This reminds me of a stand up act by George Carlin which is a must watch and as he said, may be one day the earth will shake us humans as a bad case of fleas.
In an earlier post I have mentioned that I’d go for Corona if the price was not so much more than a Carlsberg or Budweiser. Let me put price in another context. The taxes and duties imposed on alcohol make their price vary with each state. In Noida the price of a beer bottle is about 10 bucks more than Delhi. So if you live in Noida, one way to save yourself a quick buck is buy a case of beer on your next visit to Delhi.
I bet you didn’t know that a lot of big corporations insure Hollywood movies. For a producer or a studio, the best way to ensure that they don’t lose money on their movie is to find a way of earning money that doesn’t directly depend on how many tickets you sold. One way to do it is by placing brands in your movie. Corona beer was shown extensively in the Fast and Furious franchise and they must have paid a hefty fee for the privilege. People like Steven Spielberg are the masters of this trade; I can’t even count the number of brands he placed in Minority Report.
I still have a few shots of Lamy left with me but I will stop with this one. After this I am thinking of posting some shots of Corona Beer. I also make some sketchnotes and for making some of those I have used this pen as well. You can check out my online Sketchnotes Moleskine.
We all see ourselves as rational buyers but we are hardly that. What we manage to do at best is try to be rational “most of the time”. This means that there can be a few things we like to buy but we don’t because we have programmed our mind to see that they are not worth the price we have to pay. So while we are able to resist such things most of the times, there are moments of weakness when we drop our guard that small opportunity is what those things need to strike.
I thought it would be interesting to have the same background as the pen itself and that has turned out to be interesting indeed. Because of the same colour the far end of the pen is merging with the background completely.
If you were a car designer and you designed a car as fast as this Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder where would you have focused your attention the most while designing it? I would have focused on the back of the car since that is what most of the people would see.
